Eliza Orem died in 1867. Her marker, above, has been standing facing the west wind for nearly 150 years. It is truly amazing that the detail of her stone still exists today. Situated in the northwest corner of Tipton County, this cemetery is not only the final resting place for those who lived in Prairie Township, but also those who lived in Honey Creek and Harrison Townships of Howard County and the northeast corner of Clinton County. The earliest stone found is that of a child, Mildred Ellis, who died in 1845. Children of Jackson Watts & Thomas Scott may have been buried here as early as 1844. Gae & I photographed this cemetery in September of 2014. Our reading very closely matched that of the D.A.R. which was done almost 40 years age. We did simplify the way rows are number. Because of this nearly perfect match we feel safe using names and dates given by the D.A.R. which, today, are no longer legible. Rows are numbered west to east; stones north to south. This catalog would be much shorter if it had not been for the efforts of the D.A.R. and the sharp memory of the late Violet Rayl past secretary of the cemetery board.
